Helix Nebula

The Helix Nebula, NGC 7293, is hard to make out from here in the city, but possible. This is one of the closest nebulae to Earth, at about 700 light-years, and one of the apparently largest, about the same size in the sky as the Moon. It is also known as the Eye of God, or Eye of Sauron, and might be recognized as the nebula in the opening sequence of the new Cosmos series.
